GB PHOENIX CUP 2014
The first GB Phoenix Cup was a resounding success, with two teams of 10 golfers each from the SDGP (Scottish Disability Golf Partnership) and BIG (British Inclusive Golf) coming together at Roxburghe in the Scottish borders.
Each golfer that played had some form of disability/impairment, the event was match play over 3 days.
Day 1 was Foursomes with BIG taking a lead of 3-2 into day 2 which was Greensomes, again BIG came out narrow victors by 3 games to 2 leaving them requiring just 2 points to win the cup.
Day 3 was 4 ball better ball, it was decided the trialling team would get an advantage of knowing the leading teams pairings, Jim Gales and Stevie Cunningham from the SDGP made some shrewd decisions and it almost paid off. With the score 7-6 and 2 matches still on the course the outcome could not have been closer it could have gone either way, but the teams from BIG stuck out for a last hole win in 1 game and a half in the other. In the end it was a narrow victory 81/2 to 61/2 for the BIG team. The whole event however was indeed the winner and a great advert for disability golf.
