HHDGU Juniors

On Sunday 21st April 2013 a team representing British Disabled Golf played an inaugural match against Halifax & Huddersfield District Golf Union Juniors at Lightcliffe Golf Club near Halifax.
Our thanks go to Lightcliffe Golf Club and their Captain for their kind hospitality and courtesy of the course it was in great condition despite the bad weather we have recently encountered.
Thanks also to Tommy Ward the organiser of the Juniors who kindly arranged the match through BDG National coordinator Kevin Booth, the Juniors are a credit to Tommy and their Union.
The team that represented BDG was as follows:
John Irvine from Blyth
Ian Slowther from Newcastle
Gary Cooper from Newcastle
Maurice Lee from Wortley
Mike Oxley from Wirrel
John Riorden from Dewsbury
Peter Spencer from Halifax
David Mountford from Rochdale
Keith Pickering from Ipswich
Terrence Williamson from Goole
Joseph Vanaman from Kirkby in Ashfield
Kevin Booth from Huddersfield
The result of the match was 5 – 1 to HHDGU Juniors however we were given an HONOURABLE DRAW by Tommy Ward.
Maurice Lee and John Irvine being the our only winners on the day winning 4 and 2. All other games were close but most importantly it showed what disabled golfers can achieve after being diagnosed with their disability. Golfs unique handicapping system allows this to happen, the Juniors played good steady golf yet with the shots the BDG players recieved it resulted in a very close match, thank you to everyone who participated and we hope that it will grow in the future.
