Sandilands Golf Break
The weather forecast for the week was not too good with a couple of people dropping out due to the conditions on Monday and Tuesday, however 12 people braved the elements 11 golfers and 1 carer for the first day at Sandilands.
Tuesday 12th March was really cold and windy the conditions on the course were testing for most golfers never mind those with a disability, yet everyone completed the round and some great scores were achieved with 3 points separating the top 6. Andy Greenhill and John Irvine shared the spoils with 36 points. Everyone was glad when the golf had finished to return to the Grange and Links Hotel for some real warm hospitality and good food
On Wednesday 13th March we all woke to 2″ of snow, it was obvious that no golf would be played at 11am as arranged, so most decided to make use of the games room playing snooker, pool and darts. At the golf club the snow was thawing and the prospect of a midday start looked good but dead on noon another snowfall came which made us all think that was that for the day. BUT just like a miracle within 30 mins almost all the snow disappeared, so we decided to hold a 10 hole texas scramble. Once on the course we all talked about playing all 18 holes as the weather was good but 3 holes in we had another storm that wet everyone through so 10 holes it was. The winners of the Texas Scramble were Andy Greenhill, John Irvine and Jack Holmes with 20 points, 1 point in front of the other 2 teams.
Thursday 14th March was like being in another continent the sun was shining and a lot warmer than the other 2 days. Again the golf was good with some really good scores, the winner of day 3 was Brian Parsons with 35 Points. The overall winner of the Sandilands Trophy with scores of 35 points and 37 points was Kevin Booth with Andy Greenhill in second and John Irvine in third.
We would all like to thank the staff at the Grange and Links Hotel for their hospitality and also the staff at the golf club the whole break was an enjoyable experience so much so that we have booked for 2014 on the 18th, 19th and 20th March.
