Tynemouth – 27/6/13

The latest BDG event took place in the North East at Tyneside Golf Club, Ryton, the home course of BDG member Paul Weymes. Many thanks go to the secretary Alastair for accomodating us and the kindness and hospitality shoen by the club. All those attending agreed the course was spectacular and one they would all like to return to next year. The course is situated overlooking the River Tyne and affords great views of the Tyne Valley.

9 golfers took part in the event and it was great to see new recent members Tony Stewart from Blyth and Jonny Jones from Whitley Bay.

Some fantastic golf was played in particular by the victor on the day, Ian Slowther who triumphed with 39 points. Despite a handsome 21 points on the back nine, he just pipped Mike Oxley who got 38 points. John Irvine took 3rd place with 36 points on countaback from Paul Weymes.

As a new member, a BDG ‘goodie bag’ was given to Tony Stewart, the longest drive on the 18th was won by Jonny Jones.  Closest to the pin on the designated 16th was won by Ian Slowther but he very kindly agreed to give this to Gary Cooper in view of his spectacular shot to 3 feet on the par 3 12th which was witnessed by both groups.
